What is PITM?

Fordham is one of 63 member institutions in the international Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN). Our chapter–Public Interest Technology + Media or PITM @Fordham–brings together faculty who research and teach about social justice-oriented and ethically-minded technology design, deployment, and use. We center Fordham’s strengths in the social sciences and humanities, and we welcome collaboration and engagement with the more technical STEM fields.

Our goals are twofold:

First, to provide a space for community and capacity-building among faculty doing PITM work at Fordham. So many faculty across the university do work at the intersection of technology, the public good, and social justice, but often have a hard time finding each other, or finding support for interdisciplinary collaborations. We aim to provide that infrastructure through a mix of social convening events, brown-bag research talks, and connection to broader PIT-UN research support.

Second, to convene a broader, regional community of PITM oriented faculty, students, and practitioners in the NYC/tri-state area, to build interdisciplinary relationships.
